Corinthian Peach Cultivars
Prunus persica Corinthian hybrids
The Corinthian peach hybrids are strictly ornamental — columnar, pink-flowered, and dressed in gold-yellow foliage — which is its own kind of usefulness in a tight space.
Corinthian Peach Cultivars sacrifice the fruit in exchange for a more architectural package: a narrow, upright column of 20 to 25 feet that fits where spreading trees cannot, clothed in smooth gray bark and pink spring blossom. The gold and yellow foliage that follows through the season gives the tree a warm, bright presence that reads well against darker garden backgrounds or alongside evergreens.
In southern states, these trees prefer morning sun only — afternoon heat in zone 8 and 9 summers can stress them — but through much of their zone 5 to 9 range they perform without complaint. The non-edible fruit they produce attracts birds, bees, and butterflies regardless, so the wildlife value remains. Use them as accent specimens or in pairs flanking an entrance, where the columnar form earns its keep without taking up much ground.
