Heritage rose
Rosa Heritage 'AUSblush'
Said to be David Austin’s own favorite rose, Heritage offers cupped light pink blooms of exceptional delicacy on nearly prickle-free stems and gray-green foliage that frames the flowers with unusual softness.
Heritage was released by David Austin in 1984, bred from a seedling crossed with Iceberg and Wife of Bath. The flowers are light pink, deepening slightly at the edges, in a cupped rosette form with 26 to 40 petals that opens with great refinement. They measure 3-4 inches across and appear in small clusters in recurring flushes through fall. The foliage is a distinctive glossy gray-green, and the stems are nearly free of prickles, making the plant notably easier to handle than most roses of its vigor.
The arching shrub grows 4 to 7 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide and can be trained as a climber against a trellis or wall where the long canes have room to extend. Full sun in amended, well-drained, moist soil is preferred, with pruning carried out in late winter to early spring. Some susceptibility to black spot warrants attention in humid gardens. Grow it in a border as a specimen, in a group as a hedge, or at the base of a wall where its graceful habit can develop fully. Hardy in zones 5 through 10.
