Morning Magic

A vigorous climbing rose that ascends 6 to 10 feet, covering fences and arbors with clusters of warm pink blooms and notable resistance to blackspot.

Morning Magic was bred in the United States by William Radler in 1993 and introduced by Conard-Pyle in 2008 as a large-flowered climbing rose. It puts on real height, reaching 6 to 10 feet tall with a spread of 3 to 8 feet, making it well suited to training on a fence, trellis, arbor, or pergola. The warm pink blooms measure 3 to 4 inches across and appear in small clusters, opening in flushes throughout the season on glossy-leaved canes. Deadheading spent flowers encourages each subsequent flush.

Pruning should take place in late winter before the spring surge of growth, targeting dead and diseased wood along with any crossing canes. In warmer climates a deeper cut of up to a third is manageable; in colder zones a lighter hand preserves more productive wood. High resistance to blackspot makes it a lower-maintenance option among climbers. Bees visit the open blooms reliably, and the plant is winter-hardy through zones 5 to 11, an unusually wide range for a climber of this stature.
