False Indigo 'Cherries Jubilee'

Bred for compact gardens and generous bloom, 'Cherries Jubilee' opens deep red buds to maroon-and-yellow bicolors in late spring, aging to gold above blue-green foliage that lasts all season.

The DECADENCE® series was developed with a clear purpose: to give false indigo the compactness and floral intensity that modern gardens often demand. At 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, 'Cherries Jubilee' is shorter than most Baptisias while being notably floriferous, with a bushy, multi-stemmed habit that produces a dense canopy of bloom. The color sequence is the thing: deep red buds open to bicolored flowers of maroon and golden yellow, then age gracefully toward pure gold as the season progresses. Above all of this, the blue-green foliage holds steady and handsome from spring through the first frost.

Like all false indigos, this hybrid comes with a caveat about relocation: the deep taproot means it should be sited with intention, not moved on a whim. Average, moist to dry, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade suits it well in zones 4 through 9. It tolerates drought once established and is reliably deer-resistant. Left unpruned after flowering, the ornamental seed pods add a further season of interest. For perennial borders, pollinator gardens, or any spot that needs reliable color in late spring without demanding constant attention, this is a measured, well-bred choice.
